On The Boards: Warren Woods Ecology Field Station
Throughout the spring we’ve been working on an exciting new Passive House project with the University of Chicago, the Warren Woods Ecology Field Station. In 2010, the University purchased a property consisting largely of 10,000 year-old dunes in rural, Southwest Michigan. The site consists of mature beach-maple forested ravines and open wet prairie – a truly pastoral setting. In collaboration with the University of Chicago’s Department of Ecology, we have developed a design for a small, remote field station and seminar space, including seasonal sleeping cabins to house the scientists conducting botanical and ecological experiments on location. The University brought to the project an interest in pursuing a Passive House building strategy, and the goal of setting a new standard for energy performance of lab buildings worldwide. GO Logic is thrilled at the opportunity to apply our knowledge of high performance buildings to this project, while learning the requirements of a new building type. We are also very excited to be working directly with the Passivhaus Institut in Darmstadt, Germany on the potential certification of the first Passive House laboratory building in North America! We look forward to sharing much more about our Warren Woods project and process in the coming months! You can read more blog posts about the Warren Woods Ecology Field Station here.
