Building Above Code Walls

1213_JLC_Cover_tcm96-2103000GO Logic was featured in the Journal of Light Construction’s December 2013 issue, in an article entitled Building Above Code Walls. GO Logic outlined our wall construction method that combines a 2×4 stud frame insulated with cellulose sheathed SIPs (Structurally Insulated Panels) to create incredibly efficient homes for the Belfast Cohousing and Ecovillage.  Our wall systems are tailored to the cold New England climate and have helped homeowners achieve typical energy savings for space heating of 80% over homes built using standard construction methods. The article details the specific air-sealing methods that help make the houses meet the air-tight standard that is required by Passive House. The SIPs eliminate thermal bridging through framing members, are pre-cut in a factory to our architectural drawings and installed quickly on site. Together with the standard stick frame (that provides the load-bearing structure and allows for typical installation of electrical and mechanical systems), the walls are an integral part of the super-insulated envelope. You can read more blog posts about our Belfast Cohousing and Ecovillage project here.
