Alnoba Honored with AIA Maine Design Awards
For a sparsely populated state, Maine enjoys a high profile in the architecture world. As Maine-based architects, we’re reminded of that fortunate legacy every two years, when AIA Maine holds is biennial Design Awards program. In addition to giving us a glimpse at the best work of our colleagues across the state, it demonstrates again that Maine architecture is its own thing—alive and evolving, expressing both a contemporary outlook and a deep connection to our home state’s natural and history.
This year’s AIA Maine Design Awards were announced on May 16, and we’re proud to say that our Alnoba project was recognized with a Citation award.
An environmentally focused retreat center in Kensington, New Hampshire (just 20 miles across the Maine state line), Alnoba broke new ground in applying Passive House principles to a large institutional building. Completed in 2017, the project is on track for Passive House Institute certification. The jury also singled out the project with a special Craft award for outstanding detailing and construction.
